Archimonde destroyed Dalaran after Kel'Thuzad summoned him into Azeroth during the Third War. The immense demon reduced one of humanity's greatest cities to ruin, announcing the Burning Legion's return in an unmistakable act of power. The city's fall ended an era in which the Kirin Tor's walls and knowledge had made Dalaran seem a durable center of magical learning.
The Scourge prepared the way for the Legion by breaking the defenses of Lordaeron, conquering Quel'Thalas, and acquiring Medivh's spellbook. Arthas killed Antonidas while the undead secured the means to summon the demon commander. Dalaran's destruction followed that success: the Legion was no longer merely a hidden influence working through cultists and dreadlords, but a direct military force entering the war.
The event helped drive the scattered defenders of Azeroth toward a confrontation beyond the Eastern Kingdoms. Archimonde would ultimately march against the World Tree on Mount Hyjal and be destroyed by the wisps summoned through Malfurion's plan. Dalaran's fall remains one of the defining losses of the Third War, illustrating the magnitude of the danger the mortal races had to face together.
