Full History
The Argent Dawn asked those of different nations and peoples to fight a common enemy in the Plaguelands. This appeal distinguished its mission from that of a kingdom seeking to reclaim a border or an army fighting for its own banners. The Scourge had struck across such divisions and left ruin among the living. The Dawn's recruiting policy answered that danger with a willingness to accept help wherever it could be found.
The order's officers operated near the Western Plaguelands and farther east at Light's Hope Chapel. Commissioned supporters could participate in the continuing struggle and deliver tokens taken from Scourge enemies. Such arrangements linked individual service to an institution capable of rewarding and resupplying its members. The frontier recruits were not merely an improvised crowd, but participants in an organized response to a disaster no surviving power had fully contained.
Original starting-world quests establish the invitation and the presence of volunteers. They do not establish an inevitable united campaign that resolves the conflict. The Dawn remained a separate organization at this point, even while members of hostile factions could cooperate under its purpose. That unusual neutrality is central to understanding why it could operate in regions where the Horde, Alliance, Forsaken, and human remnants held different and sometimes irreconcilable interests.
