Full History
Cairne Bloodhoof established Thunder Bluff high above the grasslands of Mulgore as a refuge for the tauren tribes. Its mesas provided a defensible place to gather people who had long faced centaur attacks and wandering insecurity. The settlement became the visible heart of Cairne's effort to create a safer future.
The Bloodhoof people had been helped by Thrall's Horde during their flight through the Barrens. That friendship allowed Cairne to pursue a more permanent home instead of continually moving to escape danger. Building on the great mesas offered protection while preserving access to the hunting grounds and plains below. The city also provided a place where travelers, spiritual leaders, and families from different tauren groups could gather without abandoning their traditions.
Thunder Bluff was more than a defensive fortification. It became a center of trade, craftsmanship, and worship of the Earth Mother, joining tauren culture to the wider Horde without surrendering its identity. In original World of Warcraft, the city stands as evidence of the change from scattered endangered bands to a people able to build and defend a shared homeland.
