Full History
Maiev sought help from Malfurion and Tyrande as her pursuit of Illidan became entangled with naga forces and dangerous magic. The hunt had moved beyond the reach of a single band of watchers. Calling on the Stormrage brothers' history and the night elven leadership brought the wider kaldorei struggle into the conflict.
Maiev's duty as Illidan's jailer had defined her relationship with him long before the Third War. Tyrande's release of the prisoner to fight the Legion was a decision Maiev had not accepted as an end to that responsibility. When Illidan gained naga allies and pursued the Eye of Sargeras, Maiev faced the possibility that his actions could endanger many lands. Requesting reinforcements meant drawing upon people who had very different judgments of the exile.
The assistance helped lead to the interruption of Illidan's spell at Dalaran and to the later crisis involving Tyrande's disappearance. The summons is therefore an important link between Maiev's initial pursuit and the brothers' eventual cooperation to rescue Tyrande. It also demonstrates how unresolved disputes from the War of the Ancients continued to trouble the night elves after their victory at Hyjal.
