Full History
Warsong orcs cut timber in Ashenvale as the Horde sought materials for its new settlements, bringing them into conflict with Cenarius and night elven defenders. What Grom Hellscream's warriors treated as a supply operation crossed into a forest guarded by beings who regarded the land as sacred. The clash brought the orcs face to face with powerful guardians of Kalimdor's ancient order.
The Horde's arrival had not been a peaceful expansion into uninhabited territory. Thrall's followers needed wood, shelter, and a means to survive, but the forests of Ashenvale were home to night elves whose history was bound to druidism and the defense of nature. Cenarius and his allies saw the cutting and fighting as threats requiring resistance. Grom's Warsong responded with their familiar willingness to meet opposition through force.
The confrontation became more dangerous when demonic corruption offered the Warsong a way to overcome Cenarius. Grom's men drank tainted waters and gained the power to kill the demigod, at the cost of renewing the bondage from which Thrall had struggled to free the orcs. The logging conflict thus opened one of the darkest chapters of the new Horde's early history.
