Full History
Gul'dan organized the Stormreaver clan to protect his position within Doomhammer's Horde. After the destruction of most of the Shadow Council, the warlock could no longer rely upon his old secret network. His new faction gave him followers while he pursued the hidden Tomb of Sargeras and the power he believed lay there.
The clan's creation took place amid the Second War, when the Horde needed united armies to confront the Alliance. Gul'dan's purpose was different from Doomhammer's: the warchief sought military victory, while the warlock sought forbidden knowledge and a prize tied to Sargeras. The Stormreavers represented that divided loyalty. Their existence kept the legacy of warlock politics alive even after the Shadow Council's defeat.
The conflict came to a head when Gul'dan abandoned the main war for his expedition to the tomb. Forces drawn away from the campaign weakened the Horde at a crucial time. The Stormreaver clan thus occupies an important place in the history of the Horde's defeat, demonstrating how the pursuit of personal power undermined a war effort already facing formidable enemies.
