Kalecgos's search and the mysterious young Anveena draw together the legacy of the destroyed Sunwell in the first part of The Sunwell Trilogy. For generations the Sunwell had shaped the high elves' relationship with magic and their place in the northern kingdoms. Kalecgos's search and the mysterious young Anveena draw together the legacy of the destroyed Sunwell in the first part of The Sunwell Trilogy. Their story begins after the Scourge's destruction of Quel'Thalas, when the great source of elven magic is thought lost. Anveena's significance gives the aftermath of that ruin a different, more personal focus.
For generations the Sunwell had shaped the high elves' relationship with magic and their place in the northern kingdoms. Arthas used his invasion to destroy that order and resurrect Kel'Thuzad, leaving survivors to question what could replace the power they had depended upon. The story of Kalec and Anveena approaches those events from the perspective of travelers whose lives become entangled with forces still seeking what remains of the Sunwell.
The original trilogy's early volumes belong to the source period of Warcraft: Forever, but the first installment does not itself settle the ultimate fate of its central mystery. Anveena's story should be read as a developing arc, set amid the dangers left by the Third War and the enduring desire of powerful enemies to control arcane energy.
