Quick Overview

The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj lies at the center of the imprisoned qiraji realm beyond Silithus. C'Thun's influence makes the ancient city a place of profound menace, tied to the Old Gods and the War of the Shifting Sands. The dragonflights and night elves once labored to keep this danger behind the Scarab Wall. The raid was not playable until patch 1.9, well after the frozen 1.1 world state.

Full History

The sealed city is more than a battlefield abandoned by ancient armies. Deep within Ahn'Qiraj, the qiraji's ruling powers served a terrible influence that survived the conflict with the night elves. C'Thun's presence transformed the region into a prison holding an enemy whose defeat could not be safely assumed by those on the outside. The Scarab Wall's continued existence was itself evidence of unresolved danger.

Original-era research can connect the temple to the Old Gods, the qiraji, dragonflight intervention and the War of the Shifting Sands. It must not import later War of the Ancients retcons or tell the 1.9 opening as something visible in 1.1. The nearby Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj have a separate entry as an outer city, while the temple remains the deeper seat of the sealed power.
