Quick Overview

The Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj form part of the ancient qiraji city beyond Silithus's sealed Scarab Wall. The War of the Shifting Sands left this civilization enclosed after a desperate struggle involving night elves and dragons. The ruins retain the memory of that war and the ongoing danger beneath the desert. The raid opened in patch 1.9; its gates are still sealed in the original 1.1 snapshot.

Full History

When the qiraji threatened Kalimdor, the night elves fought to contain an enemy whose reach seemed capable of spreading beyond Silithus. The War of the Shifting Sands ended in a sealing rather than an ordinary conquest, with the Scarab Wall barring access to the civilization within. Those who stood outside could not assume the threat had perished; it had merely been locked away.

The Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj belong to the outer portions of that old city. Their architecture and surviving defenders speak to qiraji rule, the silithid and the dangers the war failed to destroy. The raid is a later release of the original game and may be researched historically without placing its opening ceremony or encounters before the patch 1.1 starting point.
