Quick Overview

Whelgar's Excavation Site was established in the Wetlands by dwarves investigating the ancient past of Khaz Modan. The Wetlands had been contested during the Second War, when the orcs pushed through Khaz Modan and threatened the routes linking the dwarves to their Alliance allies. The Bronzebeards had defended Ironforge against powerful enemies, but a people who remembered the War of the Three Hammers also wanted to learn who they had been before those divisions.

Full History

Whelgar's Excavation Site was established in the Wetlands by dwarves investigating the ancient past of Khaz Modan. Ironforge's explorers sought clues in buried stones and artifacts to questions their people could not answer through the records of recent kings alone. Their work took them beyond the mountains and into territory shaped by rivers, marshes and the aftermath of war.

The Wetlands had been contested during the Second War, when the orcs pushed through Khaz Modan and threatened the routes linking the dwarves to their Alliance allies. The excavators worked amid places whose security could not be taken for granted. For them the search for lost ruins formed part of a broader effort to understand the origins of the dwarves and the civilizations that preceded them.

Their site reflects the shift from survival to inquiry after the wars. The Bronzebeards had defended Ironforge against powerful enemies, but a people who remembered the War of the Three Hammers also wanted to learn who they had been before those divisions. The excavation made that question a practical undertaking of tools, journals and exposed earth.
