Quick Overview
Smiths of Dark Iron heritage sought to carry their craft beyond the rulers of Blackrock Mountain. Their independence emerged against the long history of dwarven clan warfare and the oppressive shadow of Ragnaros. The Thorium Brotherhood represented a different path for those who inherited the Dark Iron tradition without accepting every allegiance of its masters.
Full History
Separate smithing organization of Dark Iron descent; historical existence and exact 1.1 gameplay remain separate questions. Some Dark Iron-associated smiths operate outside their former clan as a separate organization, but Thorium Point’s established in-game hub begins in patch 1.5.
Independent Dark Iron-aligned smiths appear in the old-world record. For historical context, dwarven history is shaped by the rivalry of the three great clans and their different homelands. The Bronzebeards retained Ironforge, the Wildhammers eventually left Grim Batol, and the Dark Iron struggle culminated in the arrival of Ragnaros at Blackrock Mountain. In the Second War, dwarven defenses and technology also became important to the Alliance. The early World of Warcraft landscape reflects these divisions rather than the later Council of Three Hammers.
