Full History
For generations the tauren tribes followed the herds and seasons across Kalimdor, preserving a shared reverence for the Earth Mother while living in separate communities. Centaur raids made their migrations dangerous. Attacks on families and grazing lands threatened to turn a nomadic tradition into a retreat with no safe destination. Cairne Bloodhoof's efforts to gather his people could not succeed through courage alone while the centaur outnumbered their defenders.
Thrall's arrival changed the balance. The orcs aided the tauren against their attackers and found in Cairne a guide who understood the land they hoped to cross. The alliance carried both peoples through the struggle against the Burning Legion. In its aftermath, Cairne led tauren families toward the grasslands of Mulgore, where Thunder Bluff became a lasting center for a society that had spent years under threat.
Unity did not erase every difference among the tribes. Their elders and spiritual leaders continued to debate how closely the Shu'halo should bind themselves to the Horde and how their ancestral customs should guide the new settlement. Yet the achievement was real: the tauren could begin to plan for generations beyond the next migration, without surrendering the traditions that had helped them endure.
