Grimtotem clan

Full History

The Grimtotem followed their own ambitions even as Cairne Bloodhoof struggled to unite tauren displaced by centaur attacks. Among them, Magatha Grimtotem emerged as a powerful elder and a persistent critic of Cairne's dealings with outsiders. The disagreement was rooted in more than personal rivalry. Tauren survival had depended upon movement across dangerous plains, and not every leader believed new alliances offered safety without an unacceptable sacrifice of independence.

Cairne's encounter with Thrall altered the balance. The orcs helped the tauren resist the centaur threat, while the tauren aided the Horde on its journey through Kalimdor. Under Cairne's leadership, many tribes gathered in Mulgore and made Thunder Bluff their sanctuary. Magatha challenged the policy of cooperation that had helped make that refuge possible. Her followers favored a harsher course toward neighboring peoples and spoke of reclaiming lands beyond the new homeland.

The Grimtotem dispute survived the immediate victories over the centaur. It revealed that the tauren were not a single voice merely because they shared ancestors, spiritual traditions and reverence for the Earth Mother. The founding of a protected homeland gave them a place from which to decide their future, but it could not settle the question of whether that future would be built through negotiation or force.
