Quick Overview

The Bloodfury harpies held dangerous territory in the Charred Vale of Stonetalon, frustrating attempts to restore an already devastated landscape. Their presence threatened both tauren travelers and the night elven keepers who hoped to bring new growth to the hills. The destruction of the vale by industrialists and the harpies' subsequent occupation were separate but compounding disasters. In the Bloodfury, the struggle over Stonetalon became a struggle over whether ruined land could recover at all.

Full History

The Charred Vale had once belonged to the wooded highlands of Stonetalon. Its blackened ground told the story of damage inflicted by industrial extraction: machines and their owners had burned through a place that the guardians of nature considered sacred. But the end of an industrial assault would not by itself restore the trees. Bloodfury harpies established themselves in the ruined landscape, denying passage to those who hoped to begin its recovery.

The Bloodfury included ambushers, slayers and roguefeathers as well as ordinary harpies. These were not harmless scavengers among abandoned trees. Their command of the approaches made the vale unsafe for visitors and turned regeneration into a conflict. A forest guardian could know what saplings to plant and which spirits to placate, yet still be unable to enter the land where that work was needed.

Tauren stationed at Sun Rock Retreat saw a threat to the people of Stonetalon. Maggran Earthbinder warned that Bloodfury harpies encroached upon other creatures' ranges and endangered the innocent. His concern reflected the tauren's sense of obligation to protect the highlands, not merely a desire to expand their own borders. At Stonetalon Peak, Keeper Albagorm described the same hostile presence from the perspective of those trying to heal the Charred Vale. The two communities had different allegiances, but the harpies obstructed both.

The contrast made the Bloodfury important to the region's history. The machines that ruined the valley were not the same enemy as the flock that barred its recovery. The industrialists' greed left a scar, and the harpies turned that scar into a defended refuge. Restoring the place meant dealing with consequences that had accumulated from more than one source.

The original accounts describe campaigns to weaken the harpies, but they do not establish the permanent elimination of the Bloodfury or a complete restoration of the vale at the launch-era boundary. What remains clear is the nature of the struggle: protecting Stonetalon required more than winning a skirmish. It required recovering access to a damaged land and finding a way for its forest to live again.
