Full History
Anasterian Sunstrider reigned over Quel'Thalas, the high elf kingdom founded by exiles from the ancient kaldorei empire. The Sunwell sustained its arcane civilization, while the forests of Eversong and the defenses surrounding Silvermoon helped preserve the distance its rulers preferred from human politics. That distance became harder to maintain when the orcish Horde advanced north through the Eastern Kingdoms during the Second War.
The assault threatened Quel'Thalas itself. Orcish forces and their allies violated the elven forests, while the Alliance of Lordaeron sought the high elves' cooperation in resisting the invasion. The kingdom survived, but its leaders came away with a sharpened sense of how costly outside wars could become. Peace did not restore the old boundaries between Quel'Thalas and the wider world; the danger had merely changed shape.
During the Third War, Arthas Menethil marched the Scourge into the kingdom to reach the Sunwell and resurrect Kel'Thuzad. The invasion overcame defenses that had stood for generations. Anasterian resisted the undead assault and was slain, while the Scourge's advance devastated Silvermoon and corrupted the sacred source of elven power. His death marked not only the loss of a monarch but the collapse of a political order that had believed ancient strength and isolation could keep catastrophe beyond its borders.
