Full History
The high elves of Quel'Thalas joined the Alliance's struggle against the Horde with rangers, archers, and naval crews. Their realm had long defended itself against forest trolls and understood the danger of hostile armies reaching its borders. The Second War offered a new setting for that old concern. Elven participation strengthened the coalition while deepening the conflict with Zul'jin's Amani followers.
Quel'Thalas had been founded by Highborne exiles in lands already claimed by the forest trolls, and centuries of hostility followed. The Troll Wars had brought cooperation between elves and humans, allowing the exchange of magical knowledge. During the Second War, the growing Horde recruited forest troll allies who saw an opportunity to strike their ancient rivals. The elves' service to the Alliance therefore involved both common defense and their own unresolved frontier struggle.
The Warcraft II manual records the contribution of elven fighters and ships, not a complete diary of every engagement. Their involvement reveals how the Horde's invasion drew old conflicts into a new continental war. For the elves, alliance did not merely mean loyalty to human rulers; it offered a way to confront an enemy coalition that now included some of their oldest adversaries.
