Full History

The Second War ended with defeated orcs held in internment camps across the human kingdoms. The Alliance had stopped the Horde's armies, but victory left thousands of captives whose fate could not be settled by a battlefield decision. A generation grew amid confinement, lethargy, and the consequences of demonic corruption. The camps became both a burden for their guards and the setting for a future liberation movement.

Terenas and the Alliance governments faced hard decisions about an enemy that had destroyed Stormwind and invaded the north. Executing or repatriating the captives posed problems of policy, resources, and access to the shattered orcish world. The camps offered containment, but did little to heal the underlying spiritual damage the clans had suffered. Some orcs began to lose hope, while others remembered older traditions and the possibility of freedom.

Thrall's return to the history of his people changed the meaning of these prisons. With allies including Orgrim Doomhammer and the Frostwolves, he began freeing camps and gathering orcs into a new Horde. Their captivity therefore belongs between the defeat of the old invading army and the effort to rebuild an independent nation. It shows why winning a war and settling its human consequences are very different achievements.
