Full History

Cairne Bloodhoof's authority grew during years of danger, when tauren tribes needed a leader able to defend them and negotiate with Thrall's newcomers. After Mulgore was secured and Thunder Bluff founded, leadership could no longer depend only on Cairne's presence on the battlefield. The question of what would follow him became part of the young capital's future.

His son Baine stood near the center of that question. Many tauren regarded the younger Bloodhoof as a possible successor, and Cairne was believed to be preparing him for greater responsibility. Yet the tauren were made up of distinct tribes and elder voices, not an unquestioning court. Guidance from respected druids and shamans helped Cairne govern, while Magatha Grimtotem openly disputed the direction he had chosen.

The question was one of expectation rather than a completed transfer of power. Baine represented continuity for those who trusted Cairne's alliances and vision of a settled homeland, but no future succession was guaranteed. Thunder Bluff had given the tauren a city; its leaders still needed to prove that their unity would survive disagreement, rivalry, and the passing of the chief who brought them together.
