Full History

The Guardian Aegwynn defeated the avatar of Sargeras, believing she had prevented a direct demonic threat to Azeroth. Sargeras's influence remained with her and passed into the life of her son Medivh. The Guardian's greatest triumph became inseparable from the disaster that followed. Medivh inherited immense power without being free of the enemy his mother had fought.

The Guardians were created to combat hidden demonic threats at a time when uncontrolled arcane magic had drawn danger toward the human kingdoms. Aegwynn was among their most formidable protectors, but her confidence also put her at odds with the secret order that oversaw the role. She chose Nielas Aran as Medivh's father, and her son inherited power that would awaken with far-reaching consequences for Stormwind and the wider world.

Medivh's eventual involvement in opening the Dark Portal cannot be separated from this earlier history. An ancient deception survived beneath the appearance of victory and undermined Azeroth's defenses from within. The central tragedy lies not merely in a powerful mage becoming dangerous, but in the failure of a system designed to guard against precisely such enemies. The battle with the avatar was over; the battle with its hidden legacy was not.
