Full History
Cairne Bloodhoof's leadership brought the tauren a refuge in Mulgore, but it did not win the allegiance of every ambitious elder. Magatha Grimtotem repeatedly challenged his ideas about the direction of their people. She favored the power of her own clan and a more aggressive vision of tauren supremacy, while Cairne sought to protect a fragile peace. Their disagreement ran through the heart of the new nation.
The centaur threat had once forced tauren tribes into dangerous migration. Thrall's arrival and the alliance with the Horde helped Cairne change that predicament, allowing the establishment of Thunder Bluff as a central home. That achievement strengthened his standing among the tribes, but permanent settlement also sharpened arguments about whom the tauren should trust and how they should deal with neighboring peoples. The Grimtotem could embrace tribal security while rejecting Cairne's broader accommodations.
The original manual records Magatha's regular opposition and her belief that she was better suited to rule. It does not record the dispute reaching a final resolution in the starting world. Cairne's authority remained intact, as did the Grimtotem's distinct leadership and ambitions. The disagreement illustrates a larger feature of early Horde politics: an alliance formed through mutual survival did not erase the different traditions and priorities of its member peoples.
