Full History
Illidan and Malfurion cooperated to rescue Tyrande after her disappearance during the night elven campaign. Their shared concern overcame, for a time, the hostility created by Illidan's pursuit of forbidden magic. The rescue did not reverse his exile or erase Maiev's determination to reclaim him.
The brothers had taken very different paths since the War of the Ancients. Malfurion became a druidic guardian of the land, while Illidan remained fascinated by arcane power and was imprisoned for creating another Well. During the Third War they briefly fought a common enemy, only for Illidan's demonic transformation to separate them again. Tyrande's danger offered a reason to act together that neither brother could easily dismiss.
The successful rescue preserved Tyrande's place among the night elves but did not provide a reconciliation of every old dispute. Illidan departed toward other conflicts, and Maiev continued her pursuit. The episode illustrates how personal bonds survived within a history of betrayal and exile, even though those bonds were insufficient to settle the brothers' competing ideas of duty and power.
