Full History
The Darkspear made a new home on the Echo Isles after traveling with Thrall to Kalimdor. The islands off Durotar offered a place near their orc allies while preserving a settlement of their own. For a tribe that had fled danger and lost Sen'jin, establishing a home meant the possibility of continuing its traditions under Vol'jin.
The Darkspear had joined the Horde through shared fighting and migration rather than through conquest. They retained their language, spiritual customs, and leadership despite their growing allegiance to Thrall. The Echo Isles allowed them to remain close enough to the new capital at Orgrimmar to participate in its defense and trade while still gathering as a distinct troll community. Their presence helped give the Horde a more varied cultural identity.
The settlement did not remain entirely secure. The witch doctor Zalazane came to dominate many islanders through dark magic, forcing Vol'jin and the free survivors to withdraw. The Echo Isles' founding therefore belongs to a history of both refuge and renewed displacement. The dream of a permanent home was real, but the island danger had not ended.
