Full History
Illidan Stormrage's dealings among Azshara's Highborne brought him before Sargeras during the War of the Ancients. The demon lord destroyed Illidan's natural eyes and granted him a different, magical sight. The exchange marked him physically and bound one of the age's most gifted spellcasters to a dangerous confrontation with demonic power.
Illidan was already drawn to the extraordinary arcane energies surrounding the Well of Eternity. Unlike Malfurion, whose path led toward druidism, Illidan pursued magic even as its misuse endangered their people. His movement within the Highborne camp placed him close to the portal the court was creating. Sargeras's alteration of his vision made the dangers of that association impossible to hide, yet did not end Illidan's participation in the war.
The transformation was not the end of his story. Illidan took part in the conflict surrounding the Dragon Soul and the Well, survived the Sundering, and later made a new source of power at Mount Hyjal. His altered eyes became one of the lasting signs of a character whose actions could oppose the Legion while still crossing boundaries that his own people regarded as perilous.
