Quick Overview
Naxxramas is a flying Scourge necropolis associated with the lich Kel'Thuzad. From the skies above the Plaguelands it symbolizes the organized power of the undead army after Lordaeron's collapse. The citadel houses terrifying necromantic forces and elite servants of the Lich King. The original raid arrived in patch 1.11, not patch 1.1.
Full History
Kel'Thuzad helped prepare Lordaeron's fall through the Cult of the Damned before serving as one of the Scourge's most formidable leaders. Naxxramas is a fortress and laboratory that needs no ordinary city beneath it to project fear across the land. Its shadow over the Plaguelands represents the continuing reach of a kingdom no longer governed by the living.
In the original World of Warcraft timeline the necropolis did not become a playable raid until patch 1.11. That release history is distinct from the earlier existence of Kel'Thuzad, the Scourge and necromantic strongholds. The article therefore remains a research narrative of a historically important site without moving its live raid activities into the frozen 1.1 scene or importing its later Northrend relocation.
