Full History
Stonewatch Keep was built to defend the kingdom of Stormwind's eastern approaches, guarding the passage through the Redridge Mountains near Lakeshire. Its soldiers faced a danger that did not end with the defeat of the old Horde. Blackrock orcs remained near the Burning Steppes, and the roads between the mountain valleys gave them routes toward human farms and settlements. A fortress intended as a shield eventually became the prize of the very raiders it was built to resist.
Gath'Ilzogg led Blackrock warriors against the human stronghold. They took Stonewatch by force, overcoming local defenders and carrying off prisoners, including Corporal Keeshan. The warlock Morganth joined the assault but later turned against his orcish partners, assembling gnoll followers beneath his own power. His betrayal divided those who had attacked the kingdom, leaving multiple threats scattered across the surrounding region.
The Blackrock clan nonetheless retained the captured keep under Gath'Ilzogg and his lieutenants. Lakeshire's rulers could no longer treat the mountain roads as safe simply because Stormwind had been restored. Stonewatch's fall showed how a defeated invasion could leave behind fortified enemies, and how alliances of convenience among raiders could fracture into further violence without returning the land to peace.
