Quick Overview

Shatter Scar Vale was devastated when infernals fell into Felwood during the Burning Legion’s invasion in the Third War. The impact left craters and ruined woodland, while demonic creatures lingered after the wider invasion was defeated. Its scars make the war against Archimonde visible far from Mount Hyjal itself.

Full History

Felwood was not simply a forest that grew sick through neglect. The Burning Legion’s campaign against Kalimdor passed through the region on the way toward Mount Hyjal. Demons moved beneath the trees, and unnatural power damaged land that had belonged to the kaldorei and their allies for generations. Shatter Scar Vale preserves one of the most immediate physical traces of that assault: infernals, summoned as destructive weapons, struck the ground with such force that the impacts left lasting wounds.

The vale remains broken by enormous craters and prowling demons. These marks are not ruins erected by an ancient empire; they are evidence of a comparatively recent invasion. Their significance depends on the sequence of the Third War. Archimonde’s defeat at Mount Hyjal halted the Legion’s great advance, but it did not instantly cleanse every forest through which that army had passed. Smaller demonic remnants and contaminated ground endured.

The vale thus connects events often told on an epic scale—Mannoroth’s corruption, the Legion’s advance, and the defense of Hyjal—to a single recognizable place. The ruin of this valley shows that the land continued to suffer long after the last great battle had ended. The permanent craters and lingering danger show how victory over an invading army could leave consequences for the forest long after the commanders had fallen.
