Full History
When Lordaeron fell to the Scourge, the faithful lost more than their cities. Temples were overrun, priests were killed, and the dead rose against families that had once buried them. Survivors gathered under the banners of the Scarlet Crusade, claiming that the Holy Light demanded the destruction of every trace of undeath. The old monastery in Tirisfal became their sanctuary and their military headquarters.
The cathedral rose to prominence as the ceremonial heart of that refuge. Its leaders presented their campaign as a sacred duty, maintaining worship and religious discipline even while their soldiers pursued enemies across the ruined kingdom. The order's determination hardened into intolerance. Fear of plague and infiltration made even living outsiders suspect, and commanders could use the language of purity to justify increasingly cruel treatment of prisoners and rivals.
Scarlet Commander Mograine and High Inquisitor Whitemane embodied the force of this movement within the monastery. Their authority rested on a conviction that no compromise with corruption was possible. The cathedral's history is therefore not merely a tale of worship surviving a catastrophe. It shows how a community that began by defending the living against the Scourge could turn its own righteousness into a reason to persecute those it professed to protect.
