Full History
Sally Whitemane rose within the Scarlet Crusade after the fall of Lordaeron, when the Scourge had destroyed the old kingdom and left its survivors terrified of undeath. The Scarlet leaders promised resistance, purity, and the restoration of human lands, but their fear hardened into suspicion of anyone who did not submit to their judgment.
Whitemane became the High Inquisitor of the Scarlet Monastery. Under her authority, the monastery was no longer simply a place of learning and worship. It served a militant order prepared to condemn the living as readily as the dead, and its leaders turned the language of faith into a weapon against suspected enemies.
Her connection with Scarlet Commander Mograine tied religious authority to the monastery's armed strength. Together they represented the Crusade's central contradiction: an organization formed to fight the Scourge had become ruthless toward many of the people it claimed to defend. Whitemane's history is therefore part of Lordaeron's wider tragedy, in which devastation and fear gave rise to a zeal that no longer distinguished clearly between justice and persecution.
