Full History
The Laughing Skull was a treacherous fighting band whose effectiveness was matched by its disregard for ordinary loyalty. The clan gained a reputation for theft, killing from concealment, and the willingness to change sides when an advantage appeared. Unlike the ceremonially disciplined Shattered Hand or the fierce wolfriding Thunderlords, the Laughing Skull became known through the uncertainty it introduced into every coalition. Even other orcs distrusted it.
Mogor, an ogre, led the clan. That is an important corrective to any account that assumes all named orc clans must always have orcish chieftains. The old Horde drew strength from ogres and other allies, but those relationships could be as unstable as the rivalries between orc families. Ner’zhul’s attempt to reassemble a conquering force on Draenor thus faced an internal problem: he required soldiers whose talents made them formidable in irregular warfare, yet the political bargain that brought them together was fragile.
As rival clans struggled over powerful artifacts, the Laughing Skull’s willingness to bargain and betray made its fighters influential despite their small measure of trust. What remains distinctive is the Laughing Skull’s moral and military identity. Their treachery complicated both Ner’zhul’s efforts to consolidate Draenor and the Alliance expedition sent through the portal to halt him.
