Dar'Khan Drathir was a magister of Quel'Thalas whose betrayal helped bring ruin upon his own people. The high elves had long trusted the Sunwell as the heart of their magical civilization. When Arthas marched the Scourge toward Silvermoon during the Third War, the kingdom's defenses depended upon secrets that outsiders should never have possessed.
Dar'Khan abandoned his allegiance to the elven kingdom and aided the invaders. His treachery exposed the defenses of Quel'Thalas at the hour they were needed most, allowing the Scourge to press toward the Sunwell. Arthas used its energies to raise Kel'Thuzad as a lich, corrupting what had been a source of life and power for generations of elves.
The kingdom survived, but it was changed beyond recognition. Its ruler and countless defenders fell, the Sunwell was lost, and the remaining elves struggled with the consequences of dependence on its magic. Dar'Khan's name endured not because he conquered Quel'Thalas, but because he helped open the way for its destruction. His betrayal turned intimate knowledge of his homeland into a weapon against it.
