Full History
Aviana was one of the great wild spirits revered in ancient Kalimdor, closely associated with birds and the open sky. In the age before the Sundering, the creatures of the forests and mountains were caught in the spreading war between the night elves and the Burning Legion. Aviana's concern extended to the life threatened by that invasion, not to the claims of any mortal throne.
The War of the Ancients transformed the world she watched over. Demons crossed into Kalimdor through the Well of Eternity, and ancient guardians rallied to defend the land. Aviana joined the resistance against the invaders, sharing the peril faced by other powers of nature whose lives and realms were bound to Azeroth's survival.
Her fall during the war became part of the great cost paid by the defenders of the natural world. The Legion's invasion did not destroy only cities and armies; it struck at beings who represented the wild itself. Aviana's memory endured among those who remembered the sacrifice of the ancient guardians, even as the Sundering divided the lands over which she had once flown.
