Full History

Medivh returned in the guise of a prophet to warn Azeroth's leaders of the Burning Legion's coming invasion. His counsel often met distrust, delay, or outright dismissal among rulers occupied with dangers close to home. The warnings were urgent because the Scourge's advance was part of a far wider catastrophe. The nations that ignored him would soon face threats they had not understood.

The Guardian had once been implicated in opening the Dark Portal, bringing the first orcish invasion to Stormwind. His return was therefore burdened by a history of betrayal and disaster, even though his new purpose was to avert another war. He urged people such as Thrall and Jaina Proudmoore to cross the sea toward Kalimdor. Their journeys placed them on a continent where the Legion would ultimately attempt to seize the power of Mount Hyjal.

Medivh's warning was not enough by itself to unify hostile peoples. Fear, pride, and mistrust remained powerful barriers, and events in Lordaeron moved toward tragedy. Those who heeded the prophet survived to participate in the defense of Hyjal. His final importance lay not in commanding armies but in bringing leaders to the place where cooperation would become necessary for survival.
