Full History
Alexstrasza was entrusted with the care of living things when the ancient dragonflights received their charges. As Life-Binder and leader of the red flight, she held a responsibility beyond any mortal kingdom. She was not appointed to rule the peoples of Azeroth, but to protect the life that made their histories possible.
That duty was tested by treachery within the ranks of the Aspects. Neltharion's creation of the Dragon Soul turned power offered in trust into a weapon against his kin. Ages later the orcish Dragonmaw clan used that same artifact to hold Alexstrasza captive at Grim Batol. Her torment made the red dragons instruments of a war they had never chosen, as the Horde forced members of her flight into battle.
Her freedom came when a company of allies helped break the power of the artifact and end the Dragonmaw's control. The event was not merely the rescue of one mighty creature. It restored to the red flight the right to act upon its original charge, and exposed how easily the guardians of life could be used to spread destruction when their power fell into cruel hands.
