Muradin Bronzebeard carried Ironforge's friendship into the human kingdoms at a time when old alliances mattered greatly. Brother to King Magni, he traveled among the people of Lordaeron and served as a mentor to its young prince, Arthas Menethil. What he taught Arthas in the use of arms belonged to a relationship of trust between dwarves and humans, not merely a soldier's education.
When Arthas pursued the dreadlord Mal'Ganis to Northrend, Muradin was already there on an expedition searching for the legendary sword Frostmourne. The two met amid the frozen wastes as Arthas's campaign suffered under the enemy's pressure. Muradin knew of the blade's power, but the warning engraved upon it made its danger plain: its wielder would be cursed even as it granted strength.
Arthas chose the weapon despite Muradin's caution. The ice surrounding Frostmourne shattered when Arthas claimed it, and Muradin fell beneath the flying fragments. Believing his old friend dead, Arthas continued down the path that led to his transformation into a death knight. For those who had known the prince in Lordaeron, Muradin's apparent loss was one more measure of how completely Arthas had abandoned his former life.
