Full History
Medivh appeared to Thrall as a prophet and warned that the Horde must sail west to Kalimdor. The young warchief had been working to free his people from the old order of captivity and corruption. The warning placed that effort within a greater danger threatening the whole world.
Thrall did not yet understand the full scope of the Burning Legion's return. His people knew the suffering caused by their earlier service to demons, and many had spent years in internment camps after the Horde's defeat. Medivh's message offered a direction that could take them away from human strongholds and toward a land where they might create a different society. Thrall chose to lead the journey rather than remain in the Eastern Kingdoms.
That decision brought the orcs into contact with Sen'jin's Darkspear trolls and later Cairne's tauren. It also placed them in the battles that would culminate at Mount Hyjal, where the Horde fought alongside night elves and Jaina's human survivors. The prophet's warning is thus the beginning of both a migration and a wider alliance against the Legion.
