Quick Overview

Llane Wrynn inherited the crown of Azeroth, the human kingdom later commonly called Stormwind. His reign would face a threat unlike the older wars among neighboring peoples: the arrival of orcs from Draenor. The defense of his kingdom brought him into the defining struggle of the First War.

Full History

The human realm around Stormwind existed apart from the northern political center of Lordaeron, yet its history became inseparable from that of the other kingdoms when a portal opened to Draenor. Llane Wrynn succeeded to the throne before the full scale of the orcish danger was understood. His kingdom depended upon a network of towns, farms, fortifications, and borderlands that had never been constructed to withstand an enemy from another world.

Anduin Lothar, a companion of the king's youth, became central to the defense of the realm. Their shared past included Medivh, whose Guardian powers and hidden corruption would help bring the invaders to Azeroth. The friendship among the three men became one of the tragic structures of the First War: the kingdom would be defended by Llane and Lothar even as Medivh's actions endangered its survival.

Orc raiders advanced from the eastern marshes, striking farms and settlements before the war widened. Llane's forces organized defense of the Borderlands, but each victory required adaptation to an adversary unfamiliar with human armies. The assaults on the capital and the spreading terror of the countryside exposed the growing limits of Stormwind's resources.

Llane's reign ended in the catastrophe of the First War, after which surviving people sought refuge in the north. The account of his succession therefore matters not merely as a royal genealogy but as the beginning of the final struggle of an independent southern kingdom. Stormwind would rise again, but its rebuilding was born from exile, military disaster, and the determination of survivors.
