Westfall's farms once helped feed Stormwind, and the Furlbrow family's pumpkin fields belonged to that older prosperity. The kingdom's destruction in the First War and its difficult reconstruction afterward strained the countryside, but it was the collapse of local security that drove many farmers from their own lands.
The Defias Brotherhood took advantage of the unrest. Its members occupied rural buildings and deployed mechanical harvest watchers that turned working fields into dangerous ground. Theodore Furlbrow and his wife Verna were forced away from their farm, joining the displaced people along Westfall's roads. Even familiar possessions and ordinary crops became difficult to recover when bandits and machines controlled the land.
The family's loss was one small part of a larger failure. Stormwind's rebuilt capital could not guarantee protection or fair treatment for the communities that supplied it. The rise of the Defias made that failure visible in fields that still could have fed the kingdom. The Furlbrow farm's history was not a great military campaign, but the dispossession of people caught between a struggling crown and the violence of its own countryside.
