Quick Overview
Ameth’Aran was one of the great Highborne towns favored by Azshara and governed by Athrikus Narassin. The destruction of the Well of Eternity ruined it alongside the rest of the ancient empire. Stone tablets and restless spirits preserved a history of magical privilege, catastrophe, and the imprisonment of Asterion.
Full History
Ameth'Aran and Bashal'Aran were twin towns of the ancient kaldorei empire, favored by Queen Azshara and populated by her Highborne servants. Athrikus Narassin governed the settlements, while their inhabitants practiced the arcane arts that had made the queen's court powerful and increasingly dangerous. The cities drew their prosperity from the same magical culture that would bring the Burning Legion to Azeroth.
When the War of the Ancients ended in the destruction of the Well of Eternity, the old kingdom was broken. Ameth'Aran was devastated, its inhabitants scattered, slain, or left as troubled spirits among the ruins. Narassin's command of magic had not prevented the fall. The fate of the town became one small part of the catastrophe that transformed the shape of the world and the history of the night elves.
Centuries later, stone tablets preserved the memory of the twin settlements and their rulers. They also exposed the story of Asterion's imprisonment by a moonstone seal, a wrong rooted in the former Highborne hierarchy. Ameth'Aran endured as the place where traces of an empire's brilliance and its cruelty could still be read together. Its destruction was not an isolated accident: it followed directly from the ambitions and disasters of Azshara's age.
