Full History
The arena in Stranglethorn was built in the shadow of the Gurubashi Empire, whose authority once spread across great reaches of southern Azeroth. The empire's power rested on ancient troll cities and traditions that long preceded the arrival of human kingdoms. Even after the Gurubashi realm fractured, its monumental sites remained reminders of the strength that the trolls had once commanded.
The arena preserved a harsher part of that inheritance. Old accounts speak of contests in which bloodshed was not a possibility but an expectation, and champions sought recognition before their rivals. The struggle for supremacy outlived the unified empire; the region's tribes continued to compete for territory and influence among the ruins of their ancestors. The fighting ground thus survived the political order that had given it meaning.
In later times, opportunists used the old stadium for their own contests, prizes, and wagers. Those newer rivalries did not create the arena's reputation; they profited from it. Its past belongs to the rise and fragmentation of the Gurubashi themselves, when honor, dominance, and violence could all be displayed before an assembled crowd.
