The western halls of Eldre'Thalas preserve the most troubling legacy of the Shen'dralar Highborne. Their city had been spared the worst of the Sundering, but the Well of Eternity was gone, leaving the surviving elite without the power that sustained their lives and learning. Prince Tortheldrin searched for another source, refusing to let the old order fade as other night elves abandoned arcane excess.
The Shen'dralar imprisoned the creature Immol'thar behind magical pylons and siphoned its energy. The method preserved the elite's strength, but demanded constant control of a dangerous captive. As the prison grew more difficult to maintain, the prince's obsession became a threat to his own people. Survival had come to depend on exploiting a power they could neither truly master nor safely release.
The west wing tells the story of a civilization that survived the collapse of its empire but not the habits that had made that collapse possible. Where others learned to live without the old Well, Tortheldrin chose imprisonment, secrecy and magical dependence. The halls remained magnificent, yet their continued existence rested upon a bargain that could not last without growing cost.
